School workshop: Nine Trades artist Alan Grieve will lead a workshop with a group of secondary school pupils. They will look at the ways contemporary artists are working with trades workers in the 'Nine Trades of Dundee' project.
For this part of the project we have been working with Judith Tait and Julie Blair, Cultural Co-ordinators, Dundee City Council. Dundee City Council Educational Development Service have proven success in building and developing relationships with school based groups and will support and advise us on the delivery of this workshop and how to link it to the curriculum in an inspiring way. The workshop will tie into the heritage of Dundee and to contemporary arts practice. We will focus on the ways in which the artists are working with trade and show how it connects to the school's own proposed historical project on 'Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee'. The workshop answers a specific need as Dundee City Council had identified a gap in their provision of pupil involvement in contemporary visual art (as opposed to craft and design). It will provide a live example into which further activities can be built.
