Ben Robinson, a 2007 Masters of Design graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone, cites that his practice involves making ‘art happen from what would previously be dismissed’. A customer service advisor at the HBOS retail call centre in their Nethergate branch in Dundee, he planned to show that there is room for art in the working environment by gathering the ‘doodles’ that many people draw during their time at work. Working with a group of colleagues they formed a printmaking group at DCA, meeting once a week over a three-month period, to turn the doodles into something ‘more monumental’. The resulting works were framed and hung in the working environment of the branch. This exhibition will then toured to Cooper Gallery and is available for other call centres in Dundee.
The project took place between July and September 2009.
